Lisbon was the third city in the world with the most congresses in 2023, according to the ICCA - International Congress and Convention Association ranking.

The Portuguese capital hosted 151 congresses, seven more than in 2022, five less than Paris and one less than Singapore.

Of the 151 congresses that took place in Lisbon, 51 (33.8%) were held at the Lisbon Congress Centre (CCL) or the Lisbon International Fair (FIL), venues owned and managed by the AIP Foundation. These 51 congresses, which do not include trade fairs, had an average attendance of 5,283 participants per event. Of the total number of events, 36 were worldwide, 13 were European and two were Iberian.

In addition to these congresses, CCL and FIL hosted a total of 136 events last year, with a total of 544,441 visitors.

Portugal ranks ninth in the world list of countries, with 303 congresses organised.

“Lisbon has a privileged location, good accessibility, and infrastructure, as well as excellent quality professionals, so we believe that we will continue to be a global reference for organising associative congresses", said the executive director of Lisbon Tourism, Paula Oliveira.
